The Smoothstone Story
The Smoothstone Story

Smoothstone IP Communications became the first managed business VoIP services company in the United States in December of 2000.

Founded by Paul Borgman and Jeff Wellemeyer as Teledvance Communications -- a next-generation IP services company -- the tandem led the development of a proprietary, IP communications platform. The purpose of this platform is to deliver the benefits of converged networks and IP communications (previously only available to the Fortune 500) to medium size entities -- without requiring their clients to hire additional IT staff.

To do so, Borgman and Wellemeyer drew on their extensive experience in the development, management and delivery of technically superior products and services. Borgman, President and CEO, has over 20 years experience in managing multi-state enterprises and has a strong background in finance, sales and marketing. Wellemeyer, CTO and Chairman, is the founder and creator of Teledvance and the concept behind the centralized delivery of IP communications services. Wellemeyer has developed several 'first to market' products that include the nation's first online, Internet based billing and payment systems and the first company to deliver high-speed wireless Internet access in the United States. They have since surrounded themselves with a talented and experienced management team and a highly skilled and dedicated group of employees.

Their management philosophy was -- and continues to be:
  1. carefully manage growth, to ensure "stone solid" product offerings,
  2. deliver "smooth as silk" client service, to maximize customer satisfaction and retention, and
  3. focus on attracting and retaining outstanding people.

This philosophy has helped them grow Smoothstone from a small regional network, providing services to two cities in 2000, into a nationwide provider delivering local dial tone to over 5,800 local calling areas and real-time management of tens of thousands of VoIP endpoints ... and counting.
